Werner Syndrome
A rare inherited disease that causes a rapid acceleration of aging. Characterized by wrinkles, balding, cataracts etc.
Tumour Marker
A substance introduced into circulation by tumour tissue that indicates the presence of a tumour as well as the specific type
Proteomics
the study of the proteome (organism’s proteins) all the proteins produces; involves determining how proteins interact and ascertaining the 3-dimensional structure of proteins so that drugs can be designed to alter protein activity

A disease characterized by normal development in the first year of life followed by rapid ageing. death usually occurs around 13

A pathological type of cell death, resulting from tissue injury
Metaplasia
the transformation of one type of cell into another
Hyperplasia
increase in the number of cells of a tissue due to an increase in the frequency of cell division
Dysplasia
alteration in the size, shape, and organization of cells due to chronic irritation or inflammation
biopsy
the removal and microscopic examination of tissue from the living body for diagnosis
Atrophy
the decrease in the size of cells, with a subsequent decrease in the size of the affected tissue or organ
Anaplasia
loss of tissue differentiation and function that is characteristic of most malignancies
