Who was George Keenan?
He was an American Ambassador for Mosco.
What does it say the USSR are trying to do?
That they are a threat to America and to the world. Their end goal is global Communism, and that their Government is cruel and paranoid. It also states that Stalin wants to replace the fear of the people in the east from Germany to the West. They are also only concerned with strengthing their own security.
What does it say the USA should do?
Keenan believed that the USSR were beatable if the USA stands up, and that they will back off if the USA gets in the way. He said America needed to come out of isolationism.
What was the X Article?
It was a continuation of Keenan’s Long Telegram. He also came up with a famous policy called ‘The Containment Policy’ which aimed to have the USA contain and prevent the spread of Communism any further, which suggested that the USSR needed to be contained.
