jus the test Flashcards
how does raising car park areas reduce flooding .
raising the hight o the car park reduce the risk of the river banks bursting so easiyl as there is more distance bewtween the river and the car park so it is m more proteced .
how is widenign a channel sptream reduce flolodign .
a striaghtneed river reduces flood risk by moving more water out the area more qucikly , as there is less friction with bed and banks , fast flowing water also removes sediment would otherwis eb build up the hieght of the river bed .
how does urbanisation increase risk of floodign
in figurre there are a lot of bulings , and builings re made of impermeable material . this means that less wate ris absorbed and that thereis more run off of wate rinto the rivers increasing the risk of fllooding
another reaosn human
there is also seems to be no dams and resevroirs in the ppicture , the cwater is all kept in the channel . Limitued use of the river , insted of using it for industrail purposes means that the flow of the river is not restricted increasing risk of floodng .
natural cuases for flooding
in figure .. the relelif of the land is very flat and built on a flood plain . This increses the risk of floodign as there is not eouhgh gradient ot remove the water .Low lyign areas also conain compacted soil which is diffuclt tfor wwater to infiltrate increasing running i=also increasing risk of flooding .
another natural cause of floding
im not sure .
