FIELD WORK TECHNIQUE 1 - BIOPLAR SURVERY OF THE COASTAL DEFECNES
-both qualitative +quantittave data
We dd 5 bi-polar surverys of different coasal defecnes , in three sites of th coast e.g roc rmour .
-We had eight different factors , e.g if it was vulnerble to eorios , if it was good flood defecne .
-it rnaged from -2 to +2 -2 being owrst +2 being the best ,
-Tthis was rated based on our opinion .
Justification of Bi-Polar Method .
I would be able to judge which defence is most effective bya ddin upt he totl of each defence strategy The one witht he highest score , would be the most efective coastal defence .
FIELD WORK TECHNIQUE 2 -HEIGHT OF THE BEACH EITHER SIDE OF THE GROYNE .
-Quantitive
-We used a metre ruler tomeasure , the hieght of the groyne on the East , West ,at 3 points along the groyne .
-Near the sea , in the middle , and at the back of the beach .
Justification of groyne height ?
I would be able tojudge if the groynes were effective , by comparing the depths on the East and Wes side .
-The bigger the difference , the more effective the groynes s it means longshore drift has stopped .
FIELD WORK TECHNIQUE 3 - FIELD SKETCH
Qualitiave
-Draw a view of the site , inclduing informtion about land duse , coasal defen es , geenrl information and apperance of the coast .
Justification of field sketch ?
The more postiive the annotations = the mroe effective the management .

Descritpion of the bipolar surveyys .
I drew a bi-polar line graph to present the daa , The lines were colourcoded based on each defence axic .
-I drew al tive defecnes on the graph .
-The x axis ges from +2 (posiite) to -52 , (negative ), The y -axid had categories .
Justification of bipolar surveyp method .
-I wanted to draw all the lines onto oene grpah , which is colour coded ,s o i can compare gthe results , to see whcih one had the most postiieve points , and which one had the most negative points
-Moreover , it is more ismple to add the scores togehter and plce hte defences in order of effectiveness .
-Our opinion is established clearly in colours - negatives and positives .

-I drew three inverted bar charts for each location along the groyne (near the sea) .
-On the left , I drew a bar to represent the pebbles on the west side of the groyne .
-On the righ I drew a abr to represent the pebbles on the est side of the othe groyne .
-The scale of my y-zaxis went from (0-50).
Justification of groyne height
-Drawing a bar graph for each loaction allows us to make clear comprisions .
-Therefore , evalate , the effectiveness of the groynes .
-Larger height differences between the est and wrst , means that the groyenes are more effective as it shows long hore drift has ben stopped .
Description of field sketch ./
-Draw a neat version with clear developped annotoatoin .
-I made sure to add the coastal defecnes in my sketch , and my annotatons expalined the effectiveness of the coastal defences based on my opinion .
-I also noted down land use and erosion .
Justification of field sketch .
-By drawing a neat version of the annotated ieldskeetch , we could see a clear and accuate representation of human built surroudins .
-Adnd whteher the coastal defecnes culd stop erosion/long shore drift .
-We were bael to see t he relationship between defences and land use .
Key results of bipolar analysis .
-The average of all fivde defences was -0.6.
-Sugegesting that the coasta defences were not very effective .
-My best coastal defence score was the regraded slope (+4)
and my worst coastal score was no active inervention (-3_)

-Regraded slope ws the most effective agaisnt eriosn for me as it has low disruption to loacal people durng consturction .
-Management retreat was the worst for me , it was vulenable to eriosn , ugly ,a nd had a high safety risk .

-Overall the groynes were effective ..
-There was a lower average ont he East side 20 ,than on the west side 25 .

-Near the sea , the groynes were ont very effective . because theyw ere submeged in sediment ,meaning longshore drift was not stopped .
-hwoever , enar the land and the middle , the beach was higher on the east , suggesting LSD , is being trapped by the groynes showining it is effective .

-I drew detailed sketches of the three sited , to depict the levels of eriosion .
-By cmparing the defences with anonotations , I can comapre them to lanuse .
-From the sketches , I can conclude that (NAI) , was the least effective as I can see a lot of slumping from my sketch .
-Site 2 was the msot effective as I can see on mys ktch , there was multipe defences -e.g - groynes preventing long shore dift ,a dn RETAINING SEA WALL , preventing mass movememnt .

-It has become evident , that area with MORE expensive and MUTLIPLE ,d efecnes e,g site 2

-Pverall , only two of my coastal defences had a posite score , and thereofre were effective . Rocka rmour 2+ , sea wall 4+ , whereas groynes , sewall and nai ,all had negative scores .

-SUgeesting theya re confident , with their manaegement stragteis ,a s they wont b geet destroyed by glooding .

-Moreoever , althogh I have amrked down the groyne and sewals as ‘-‘ , for protectoin agaisnt erosion , ecuad I aahd givent he graded slope a + , it didn’t matter if the other two defences weren’t as effecivt becuase the regraded slope can hadnle mos tof hte impact .
-Thereofre with a + , on the bipolar naayss , for proectiona gsisnt erosion , and + for good life expectancy , ad low cost , regraded slppe is the most evffective protecton agsint erosion in m topinoin .
-And the lest effective of the groynes , with being vulenbale ot eriosn , and unable to control costal floodign with a score of -.
