J.P. Morgan Interview Flashcards

1
Q

Why Finance and Investment?

A

I naturally enjoy working in a fast paced environment which is why a career in the sector of banking and finance appeals to me.

I also enjoy working with numbers and solving problems, so using a combination of problem solving and numerical skills to invest people’s money effectively is something I am eager to be involved in.

I am eager to get involved in such a broad industry which offers a great opportunity to build a broad range of skills and go on to specialise eventually. This combined with the volume of qualifications that can be obtained in the industry such as the CFA qualification make it an exciting career choice for me.

Finally the level of job
satisfaction I believe I would obtain working in the industry is very high. I am particularly motivate when I can see the impact of my work in real terms. Therefore seeing the results of advice or investment is something I would find greatly rewarding.

Q

Why do you want to work for J.P. Morgan.?

A

My key motivation for a career at J.P. Morgan is because of my desire to work at a global leader in Investment.

I believe that I share the same key values as J.P. Morgan of:

Excellent Client Service, Operational Excellence, Integrity and Teamwork.

I think that for clients to be confident in your ability to invest their money it is essential to focus on the interests of the client and invest with integrity. This combined with consistently excellent results is the best way to ensure you have clients trust. Finally I strongly believe teamwork is the best way to achieve these excellent results.

One of the reasons why I would like to work for J.P. Morgan is the commitment to developing people. As an individual who is always looking to learn and improve this is very important for me. Development programmes such as Leadership Edge which helps managers become better leaders and create best-in-class teams is a great example of this.

I admire the way that J.P. Morgan leads the way with positive social contributions such as the Global Cities Initiative equipping business and government leaders with the information required to help their cities thrive. The benefits of this are job growth and economic expansion.

One of the reasons I am attracted to work for J.P. Morgan is the opportunity to travel. As someone who had always had a passion for seeing new parts of the world, having this option available in the future is a great advantage.

Q

What attracts you to the graduate Analyst program at J.P. Morgan.?

A

My motivation for the role is primarily driven by the opportunity to analyse data that informs our solutions for the world’s preeminent companies. The chance to use my analytical and quantitative skills to impact on high profile investment decisions is something I find very exciting.

Furthermore working with senior bankers and clients is something I am quite excited to apply my extremely strong communication skills to. I have developed these throughout a variety of professional roles liaising with both clients and suppliers. I would love the chance to develop these skills further and start building a professional network.

As an individual who is always eager to learn and develop, the world renowned training program at J.P. Morgan is a huge draw to the role. The chance to work on qualifications straight away is something that is important for me, so I would be eager to complete Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) training and exams as soon as possible.

I have always had a passion for travelling and therefore the opportunity to complete the global training programme in New York is very appealing.

Q

What can you do for us that other candidates can’t?

A

A high level of energy, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under pressure.

You should also enjoy working in a collaborative environment. I have significant team based experience working in the Leeds Formula Student Race team where I was part of a 20 person team. As part of the 7 person Engine sub team this required constant teamwork to ensure we were all working towards the same goals, not only in the sub team but the overall team.

Excellent analytical, quantitative and interpretative skills. These are skills that come naturally to me and I was able to utilise them significantly during my final year project where I designed the exhaust system for the Leeds Formula Student Race Car.

Strong verbal and written communication skills which I have developed working in the customer support department at Midland computer services. I was in daily contact with customers by both phone and email.

The confidence and initiative to take on early responsibility and manage your own projects. At Midland computer services I would often take on additional responsibility such as order processing.

I am excellent at thinking outside of the box and being entrepreneurial. I have a proven academic track record of solving problems in innovative ways, which I have also applied in the work place. Often for projects during my university degree I have had to think outside of the box to design an innovative solution. An example of this is my design of the exhaust system in the Leeds Formula Student Race team where…
