Deloitte Flashcards
Why Deloitte?
The main reason why I aspire to work for Deloitte is the reputation for maintaining integrity to the highest standard. Having worked in customer support at Midland Computer Services I understand that retaining the trust of your clients is the best way to ensure repeat business. Therefore, I really admire the way that Deloitte puts its reputation before its revenue by always being truthful towards its customers.
One of the key reasons why I want to work for Deloitte is the culture of innovation and empowerment. Coming up with innovative solutions for challenging problems is something that really motivates me, as I have a natural curiosity as for how things work. Throughout my university degree I was required to solve problems using my innovative mind-set such as working on a design to reduce the noise output of the Leeds Formula Student Race Car exhaust system.
Another reason why I want to work for Deloitte is that I believe I would thrive in the collaborative culture. I am always looking to learn and hear new points of views so working in a truly collaborative environment is key. Working as a Mountain Safety Volunteer for Whistler Blackcomb really reinforced to me that even small teams can achieve great things working together, as a team of just seven of us were able to effectively patrol an entire mountain.
Another reason why I aspire to work for Deloitte is the commitment to a good work life balance. The recent focus on agile working is particularly significant as I believe that people should be judged of the quality of their work and the value it creates, rather than just the amount of hours in the office.
Finally I really admire Deloitte’s attitude towards corporate environmental responsibility. I believe it is imperative that large organisations lead the way on environmental issues because of the significance of the issue. The initiative of “Our Green Journey” by Deloitte particularly inspired me to apply for Deloitte. The fact that Deloitte has reduced carbon emissions by 32% per employee since 2011 is truly impressive.
Why the Strategy & Operations graduate role?
One of the reasons why I want to be a Strategy & Operations Graduate is because of the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects and with a diverse scope of clients. This is primarily because I embrace change and diversity, so the opportunity to work with clients from different industries is particularly exciting. One of the things I enjoyed most about my engineering degree was the variety in the projects, for example one week I would be designing a race car whereas the other I would be modelling the efficiency of a production line computationally.
I also view this as a unique learning opportunity because of, not only the chance to gain skills across a broad range of industries, but the chance to work with high level clients collaboratively. I think that working alongside other people is a fantastic way to learn. Learning and striving to fulfil my potential is one of the key things that drives me. For example, whilst working in customer support at Midland Computer Services I spent any free time researching how our products worked.
I embrace responsibility where possible, so the prospect of working with some of Deloitte’s most influential clients early on my career is really appetising. The chance to use my people skills to build long lasting relationships with high profile clients is something I would be excited to do. A recent example of where I have taken on additional responsibility was working in the purchasing department at Midland. Whilst in this role, I often completed order processing with a high level of accuracy whilst my colleague was on holiday.
Why Strategy & Operations?
I want to be a Strategy & Operations consultant because of the chance to undertake responsibility early on in my professional career. The opportunity to work on projects for high profile organisations early on is something I am excited by. I have gained good commercial awareness working in various departments at Midland Computer Services, often taking on additional responsibility such as order processing, which has built on my long standing interest in business.
Another reason that I want a career in Strategy & Operations consulting is because I like to be challenged. The chance to impact the way these companies do business by applying my problem solving skills to real world business problems is something that I find highly motivating. I have always enjoyed solving complex problems and the nature of my Mechanical Engineering degree meant that this was a regular requirement. For example in my final year project I successfully designed the exhaust system for the Leeds Formula Student Race team which resulted in it meeting the competition noise limits.
Another reason why I want a career as a Strategy & Operations consultant is because I am an individual who is always willing to learn and embrace change. Therefore the chance to work on a variety of projects is a great way to do this and develop a diverse range of skills. The opportunity to be continuously learning throughout my business career from the exposure to a broad range of industries is one of the key factors that draws me to business consulting.
I have always had a keen interest in technology, especially a natural intellectual curiosity for how thigs work. Therefore being able to apply this in a business environment would really satisfy me. I am also greatly motivated when I can see the results of my work. Therefore applying technology to solve complex business problems, and then seeing the results of this, would give me great job satisfaction.
