IBM Flashcards
Why IBM?
I want to work at IBM because I want to work for one of the largest consulting organisations in the world where there is an opportunity to bridge the gap between users and technology. I have always been interested in business and technology, so the chance to combine these to solve real business problems at IBM excites me.
Another reason why I want to work for IBM is because of the dynamic and diverse community. I am always looking to learn and hear new points of views, so working at the dynamic environment is something I would love do.
Another reason why I want to work for IBM is the core value of dedication to every client’s success, something I strongly believe in. Having worked in customer service roles previously, I understand the importance of this to ensure customers are retained. I think it is important that both large and small clients receive the same level of dedication at IBM.
The emphasis that IBM puts on the value of innovation is another reason why I want to work for IBM. IBM’s long standing history of being a true leader in innovation, such as leading the US Patent receipts for 22 straight years, is something that really inspires me. Coming up with innovative solutions for challenging problems is something that really motivates me. Throughout my university degree I was required to solve problems using my innovative mind-set such as working on a design to reduce the noise output of the Leeds Formula Student Race Car exhaust system.
Another reason why I want to work for IBM is the emphasis on trust and personal responsibility in all relationships. I think that this is really important that both clients and colleagues know that they can trust one another at IBM. This is something I would like to make the most of and utilise my excellent people skills to build valuable relationships.
I would be eager to get involved in some of the social and corporate responsibility programs that IBM are committed to, as I believe it is really important that businesses lead the way on issues like these. So the fact that IBM creates solutions which are sustainable as well as effective is admirable. A scheme I particularly admire with regards to this is the partnership with nature conservancy and commitment to preserving the amazon rain forest.
Why the Graduate Business Consulting role?
One of the reasons why I want to be a Graduate Business Consultant at IBM is the world-class training programme. As someone who is always eager to learn new skills this presents a great opportunity to do this and further develop my understanding of business and technology.
The chance to move between different projects in the first two years is something that excites me as I embraces change and variety. I find that experiencing change energises me and motivates me even more. Furthermore working on projects across a broad range of industries is a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills further.
Another reason is the opportunity to work with prestigious clients, something I would love to do as I embrace additional responsibility at any opportunity. I am also a people person, so would like the chance to apply my communication skills to cultivate client relationships.
The chance to be part of a diverse team and work with specialists at the top of their fields is a learning opportunity that I would love to make the most of. I find that working with a diverse range of people is a great way to learn and improve.
Another reason is the support for accelerating career growth with a dedicated CbD Manager. I am a highly motivated and always eager to grow my career, so this is a great opportunity to do this.
Technology??
What is Business Consulting?
Business consultants help organisations to solve issues, create value, maximise growth and improve business performance. They use their business skills to provide objective advice and expertise, and help an organisation to develop any specialist skills that it may be lacking.
They are primarily with the strategy, structure, management and operations of a company. Your role is to identify options for the organisation and suggest recommendations for change, as well as advising on additional resources to implement solutions.
With excellent people skills business consultants will bridge the gap between users and technology. Understanding the client’s requirements and analysing their business and industry; advising them on standard methodology or recommended strategy; crafting and delivering solutions
Why Business Consulting?
I want to be a business consultant because of the chance to undertake responsibility early on in my professional career. The opportunity to work on projects for high profile organisations early on is something I am excited by. I have gained good commercial awareness working in various departments at Midland Computer Services, often taking on additional responsibility such as order processing, which has built on my long standing interest in business.
Another reason that I want a career in business consulting is because I like to be challenged. The chance to impact the way these companies do business by applying my problem solving skills to real world business problems is something that I find highly motivating. I have always enjoyed solving complex problems and the nature of my Mechanical Engineering degree meant that this was a regular requirement. For example in my final year project I successfully designed the exhaust system for the Leeds Formula Student Race team which resulted in it meeting the competition noise limits.
Another reason why I want a career as a business consultant is because I am an individual who is always willing to learn and embrace change. Therefore the chance to work on a variety of projects is a great way to do this and develop a diverse range of skills. The opportunity to be continuously learning throughout my business career from the exposure to a broad range of industries is one of the key factors that draws me to business consulting.
I have always had a keen interest in technology, especially a natural intellectual curiosity for how things work. Therefore being able to apply this in a business environment would really satisfy me. I am also greatly motivated when I can see the results of my work. Therefore applying technology to solve complex business problems, and then seeing the results of this, would give me great job satisfaction.
