Journaling 101-Past Entries Flashcards
In this chapter you’ll learn why and how to revisit past entries in your journal.
Reviewing your old journal entries allows you to step back into a past version of yourself.
You can reassess your writing from a new, more detached perspective.
Read from a place of compassion, removing judgemental thoughts and accepting any initial awkwardness you may feel.
In your life…
Have you ever thought about looking back at old journals or writings?
Before delving into the old you, sit down first and assess what your looking to accomplish.
If your looking to reflect on a certain period of your life, a good rule is to write down questions before reflecting and reading.
These questions could be… Have i learned to manage this better? Am i leeping up with what i said I’ll do? Do i feel i still do this? Have i grown since then?
You may not have any specific entries you want to look back on just yet,so you’ll start with a simple review of a response in your previous entries.
Reflect…
Review your free writing response and share your initial thoughts.
Be honest…
How did you feel when reflecting on the entry?
Look deep inside…
Do have a new perspective on what you wrote?
An opportunity for growth…
What have you learned since you wrote this?
Look forwards…
How could you reflect on entries in the future?
Reflecting on your previous journal entries can take some getting used to.
You’ve taken the first step, now its time to continue writing so you have even more entries to look back on.
