Joints of upper limb Flashcards
The acromioclavicular joint is_____________?
- joint of acromion and clavicle
- diarthrotic with gliding and rotation
- Synovial joint, in a plane
The glenohumeral joint___________?
- scapula and humerus
- synovial, ball and socket joint
- Diarthrotic with multiple axis
The elbow is what type of joint?
- Consists of the ulna, humerus and indirectly the radius
- is a synovial hinge joint
- A diarthrotic uniaxial joint.
The radioulnar joint consists of what section and is what type of joint?
- radius and ulna
- is a synovial pivot joint. radius pivots over the ulna
- A diarthrotic uniaxial joint
Describe the sternoclavicular joint and its planes of movement.
- joint between sternum and clavicle
- A synovial joint with a shallow saddle
- Diarthrotic and multiaxial.
- considered double gliding joint as it has an inner and outer articular gliding surface
Where is the intertubercular synovial sheath?
This sheath protects the long head tendon of the biceps, as it passes through the intertubercular groove on its way to attach to the superior glenoid tubercle.
Where is the coraco humeral ligament?
This ligament attaches to the lateral lip of the intertubercular groove and attaches to the coracoid process of the scapula
What is the glenohumeral ligament?
- has anterior and posterior divisions of the joint.
- Divided into the superior, middle, and inferior sections
- this is the ligament that is affected with a shoulder dislocation.
The coracoclavicular joint connects what?
- composed of the trapezoid and conoid ligaments
- the trapezoid ligament is from coracoid to lateral aspect of clavicle
- the conoid ligament attaches from coracoid to just medial of the trapezoid ligament
How many bursa are used in the shoulder and what are they?
- 4
- subscapular
- subdeltoid
- subcoracoid
- subacromial
Subscapular bursa is located where?
-between the subscapular muscle and the joint capsule
Where is the subdeltoid bursa located?
-located between the deltoid muscle and the joint capsule
Where is the subcoracoid bursa?
-located between the subscapularis and the coracoid process
Where is the subacromial bursa, and what is the it prone to as far as injury?
- Located under the acromion and on top of the supraspinatous which inserts on the greater glenoid tubercle.
- The location makes the bursa prone to inflammation and impingement as the humerus is raised repeatedly above the 90 degree mark
