Joints Flashcards
Synarthrosis
Fibrous Joints
Collagen fibers
Little to no movement
3 types of fibrous joints
Sutures- hold cranial bones together.
Syndesmoses- hold ulna and radius
Gomphosis- in the gum
Cartilaginous Joints or Amphiarthrosis
Synchondroses united by hayline cartilage
Ephiphysial and sternum
Symphyses united by fibrocartilage
Intervertebral discs and pubic symphysis
Jaw temporomandibular joint
condyle of mandible articulates with mandibular fossa
lateral ligament
Synovial Joints or Diarthrosis
Freely movable to limited mobility
articular cartilage like hayline cartilage
Joint Capsule
synovial membrane
Shoulder glenohumeral joint
Ring of fibrocartilage that deepens socket with four bursae
Elbow Joint
Single joint capsule enclosing the humeroulnar and humeroradial joints, act as a hinge.
Hip joint
Head of femur articulates with acetabulum
coxal joint and acetabular fibrocartilage that deepens socket.
4 ligaments
Knee tibifemoral joint
Functions as a hinge, lateral and medial menisci for padding and 4 ligaments
Ankle talocrural joint
Talocrural joint with 4 ligaments tibiofibular and multipart medial and lateral ligament.
Jaw joint
Condylar, hinge and plane
Condyle of mandible and mandibular fossa of temporal bone
Ligament- lateral and sphenomandibular
Shoulder joint
Ball and socket
Head of humerus and glenoid fossa of scapula for articulation
Elbow joint
Hinge and pivot
Humerus with ulna and radius and ulnar and radial notch
Hip joint
Ball and socket
Head of femur and acetabulum of hip bone
Knee joint
Primarily hinge
Tibia with femur and fibula with femur
