Appendicular Musculature Flashcards
Muscles that stabilize the pectoral girdle
Subclavius, deltoids, pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, serratus anterior
Deltoid, trapezius, rhomboid minor or major
Lateral rotation of scapula
Trapezius superior and serratus anterior
Medial rotation of scapula
Levator scapulae
Rhomboid major and minor
Elevation of the scapulae
Levator scapulae
Trapezius superior
Rhomboid major and minor
Depression of the scapulae
Trapezius inferior
serratus anterior
Retraction
Rhomboid minor and major
Trapezius
Protraction of the scapulae
Pectoralis minor and serratus anterior
Rotator Cuff Muscles
Supraspinatus elevates the shoulder joint to the side
Infraspinatus externally rotates the shoulder joint
Teres minor externally rotates the shoulder joint
Subscapularis allows humerus to move freely during elevation of the arm
Each have tendons
Muscles acting on the arm
Pectoralis major flexes, adducts and medially rotates humerus
Deltoid can flex and medially rotate, abduct, or extend and laterally the arm depending on which fibers are active
Muscles acting on the Arm
Teres major extends and medially rotates humerus
Latissimus dorsi adducts and medially rotates humerus, extends shoulder joing
Muscles acting on the forearm
Brachialis is the prime mover for elbow flexion
Biceps brachii supinates forearm and flexes both elbow and shoulder
Brochioradialis flexes the elbow
Triceps brachii extends the elbow
Action of rotator muscles on the forearm
Supination
Supinator and biceps brachii supinate forearm
Action of rotator muscles of the forearm
Pronator teres and pronator quadrutus pronate( warps around ulna and radius) forearm
Posterior compartment of the muscles
Extends the wrist (carpus), fingers (digits), and thumb (pollex)
Anterior compartment muscles
flex the wrist (carpus), fingers (digits), and thumb (pollex)
