Q

how did James deal with religion in Scotland?

A

-wanted to bring the Scottish church into conformity with England.
-knew that there could not be complete harmony but was determined to introduce Bishops.
-did this in 1618.
-although the underlying Presbyterian structure remained James forced a number of liturgical reforms, the Articles of Perth and these were deeply unpopular, especially the one that prescribed kneeling to receive communion as it was seen as Catholic.
-James realised he went too far and articles were not strictly enforced and the new drafted Bible in 1619 was not imposed.
