-approximately doubled between 1500 and 1650 to about 5 million

what did the increase in population mean?
A
-agricultural production and industry were not able to increase at the same rate, which led to inflation and a large subclass which neither rented or owned land.
-the rich got richer as the increased population meant they could charge higher rents
