What is IPB-2?
Determines how the characteristics (IPB-1) affects friendly/enemy
IPB-2 So What? (+Success)
identifying how relevant characteristics of the area of interest will affect friendly and threat operations.
Success: results in allowing the commander to quickly choose and exploit terrain, weather, and civil considerations to best support the mission
What are the two types of terrain and the acronym used?
Natural and urban

Obstacles (3)
Natural or man-made obstruction
designed or employed to disrupt, fix, turn, or block the movement of the opposing forces
imposes additional losses in personnel, time, and equipment on the opposing force
Key terrain
any locality, or area, the seizure or retention of which affords a marked advantage (ex: high ground, wadis, bridges,…)
Decisive terrain
The successful accomplishment of the mission depends on seizing, retaining, or denying the use of the terrain to an enemy…mandatory for successful mission accomplishment + extraordinary impact on mission
