Introduction to Different Body Systems Flashcards
is made up of a number of systems and each of them has a
specific job, enabling the body to function effectively
body
Depending on function, these systems are grouped into three:
• Structural systems
• Coordinating systems
• Visceral systems
provide the basic framework and transport system of the body
Structural systems
the control mechanism of the body
Coordinating systems
includes all the basic functional systems that do the general duties for the body within one of the three body cavities; thoracic, abdominal and pelvic
cavities
Visceral systems
Visceral systems includes all the basic functional systems that do the general duties for the body within one of the three body cavities; what are those three?
thoracic, abdominal and pelvic
cavities
the supporting frame upon which the body is built
Skeletal system including the joints
the mechanism by which the bones are moved to bring
about locomotion
Muscular system
the covering of the body
Integument
the covering of the body
Integument
transports blood around the body
Cardiovascular system
carries information to and from the central “control station” of the body; controls and monitors the internal and external environment of the body
Nervous system
controls the body’s functions via a communication system of chemical messengers or hormones
Endocrine system
responsible for taking in food and breaking it down to its basic components so that the body can utilize them
Digestive system
responsible for taking in oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from the body
Respiratory system
responsible for eliminating waste and toxic substances
Urinary system
responsible for producing offspring
Reproductive system
