Introduction to coagulation and platelet aggregation Flashcards
What are platelets produced from?
Platelets are produced in the bone marrow by fragmentation of megakaryocytic
What is the function of platelets in haemostatsis?
The maintenance of vascular integrity
The initial arrest of bleeding by platelet plug formation
What is platelet adhesion?
a response to vascular injury, the first step during which single platelets bind through specific membrane
State the importance of platelet adhesion
limits blessing following blood vessel injury by promoting platelet aggregation and clot formation.
What is VWF, Von Willebrand Factor?
A blood glycoprotein involved in hemostasis.
It initiated platelet adhesion and sustains platelet aggregation.
What binding sites do platelets attach on to the VWF?
GPib - IX - V complex receptor
Integrin (Beta) aIIb
Explain Platelet activation.
ADP release
Thrombin
What are the markers of platelet activation?
PF4
PDGF
Thromboglobulin
What is the coagulation pathway?
A cascade of events that leads to secondary haemostasis
What is the extrinsic pathway?
Damaged endothelial cells release tissue factor TF
This then activates Factor 7
which activates factor.
This then activates Factor 10 which activates factor 10a
What factors are involved in the extrinsic pathway?
1
2
7
10
What factors are involved in the intrinsic pathway?
1 2 9 10 11 12
