Introduction Flashcards
What is homeostasis?
It maintians a constant internal environment in response to stress.
What is the goal of homeostasis?
Keep the organism equilibrated.
What is a stress? Give examples.
It is any physical change
sweat, temperature going up, change in ion concentration, ph, pressure, plasma
What are the stressors?
they are the cause of thechange. They come form the environment, the physical or is an emotion.
What are the steps of homeostasis? (need all theses steps in an answer)
- Stimulus causes change
- CHange is detected (sensor)
- Response is initiated (control)
- Cells respond (effector)
- The system returs to normal
What controls the homeostasis?
The nervous system and the endoctrine system (organs that release enzymes.
What is the hierachy of organization?
Body (composed of many system) System(composed of many organs) Organs (composed of many tissues) Tissue (composed of many cells) Cells
What is the metabolism?
All cellular activity, everything that is going on inside your cells
Of what is composed metabolism?
Anabolism and catabolism.
What is anabilism?
It forms/ builts something and uses energy.
What is a catabolism?
It breaksdowm food to provide energy
