promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work, and play. Protects populations of people from diseases.
What is the official definition of Public health?
contribution to the complete physical, mental, and social well-being of humans through an understanding and application of veterinary medical science.
What is the origin of most food borne diseases?
Animals (even if the contaminated food is spinach or tomatoes)
What are zoonoses?
diseases with animal reservoirs.

loss of domestic animals used for food, economic cost, unemployment, depression, suicide.
How does Public health affect daily clinical practice?
advising clients about zoonotic diseases, keeping staff free from zoonotic diseases, USDA accreditation, rabies quarantine/exams, deciding which tx and vaccines to use
What is epizootiology?
The study of the distribution and determinants of disease and other health outcomes in animal populations.
What careers are available in vet public health?
federal, state, and local government, academic institutions, private non-profit institutions, private business, pharmaceutical companies, labs, etc.
