Intro to upper limb and superficial back Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the two clavicular joints

A

Sternoclavicular joint

  • anterior/posterior sternoclavicular ligaments
  • Articular disc with 2 synovial cavities
  • Connects upper joint to axial skeleton

Acromioclavicular joint
-Synovial, acromion of scapula and distal (lateral?) end of clavicle
H-as superior and inferior acromioclavicular ligaments
Coracoacromial ligament

Q

What is the blood supply to the superficial back and shoulder region?

A

off thyrocervical trunk:

  • suprascapular a.
  • dorsal scapular a.

off off axillary a
-subscapular a. and gives rise to
thoracodorsal a
circumflex scapular a.

Q

What occurs if the axillary artery is ligated proximal to the subscapular a?

A

bloodflow of the subscapular a reverse

goes from thyrocervical trunk → suprascapular and dorsal scapular (dorsal scapular receives from posterior intercostal) → circumflex scapular and thoracodorsal → subscapular → axillary

(normally the subscapular flows into the thoracodorsal and subscapular)

allows lower limb to receive blood, not a very good anastomosis tho

Q

What is the triangle of auscultation?

A

on opening between trapezius, latissimus dorsi and the medial scapular border where you can hear lung sounds better cause theres less in the way
