Intro Flashcards
What is membrane potential?
The difference in electrical potential between the interior and exterior of a cell
What two things are important to transfer nerve impulses from one nerve to another?
Synapses and neurotransmitters
Once the dorsal and ventral root fuse to join a spinal nerve, where abouts does it leave from?
intervertebral foramen
In relation to the vertebrae, where abouts do the corresponding spinal nerves leave?
cranial to the vertebrae up until C7, there is a C8 spinal nerve but no c8 vertebrae so the spinal nerves leave caudally from here
How does the neural tube form?
- The notochord signals the ectoderm above to thicken
- this forms the neural plate
- the neural plate folds and fuses cranial to caudal
- neural crest cells below distribute across the tube
Name some tissue derived from the neural crest (3)
- schwann cells
- ANS
- endocrine tissue
Embryologicaly what structures are the meninges derived from?
Dura matter from the paraxial mesoderm surrounding the neural tube and Pia arachnoid is derived from neural crest cells.
