Intro Flashcards
What is pathology
studies the response of a living organism to injury, correlates specific event with definitive causes
What are the basic categories of responses of tissues to injury
Inflammation
Necrosis & Degradation
Hemodynamics and Tissue Repair
Disturbances of Growth and Differentiation
What are the two types of pathologists
Clinical and anatomical
What do clinical pathologists do
Look at biochemical alterations in fluids (blood, urine, etc)
Cytology
Primarily live patients
What do anatomical pathologists do
Look at structural changes in the whole animal, organs
Histo
Necropsy
Biopsy
Usually deceased animals
What are the goals of pathologic analysis
-Determine if there is a lesion
-Explain process and pathogenesis
-Est. etiology
-Determine clinical significance
Provide prognosis
