Intestine Microanatomy Flashcards
differentiate between small intestinal glands (crypts of Lieberkuhn) and villi in small intestine
the small intestinal glands open at the base of the villi and are simple straight tubular glands; also have paneth cells (zymogen granules-acidophilic) and villi
differentiate between villi and microvilli in small intestine
villi: finger-like projections from the plicae circulares; central lacteal at center
microvilli: line the villi and the entire small intestines (brush border)
differentiate between enterocytes and goblet cells in small intestine and large intestine
enterocytes are the simple columnar epithelium that line the intestinal glands/crypts (simple straight tubular); the glands contain goblet cells
differentiate between central lacteal, capillary beds, and smooth muscles within the villi in small intestine

differentiate between the mucosal glands (intestinal glands) and submucosal glands in small intestine
musocal glands: adjacent to but do not pass through l. muscularis
submucosal glands: push into l. muscularis (greedy and take up space)
differentiate between the submucosal and myenteric ganglia and nerve fascicles and list the structures they innervate
submucosal plexus: ganglia innervate t. mucosa and t. submucosa
myenteric plexus: ganglia innervate t. muscularis and t. serosa/adventitia
locate the microvilli on the enterocytes in the large intestine

compare and contrast the large intestinal glands (crypts of lieberkuhn) with the small intestinal glands (also crypts of lieberkuhn)
large intestine glands have no paneth cells and NO VILLI!!!!!
