Abdominal Arteries Flashcards
what are the 3 major branches from the descending aorta that supply the abdominal organs?
- celiac
- cranial mesenteric
- caudal mesenteric
describe the branching of the celiac artery
- dorsal and ventral splenic branches
1a. dorsal splenic branch gives off short gastric arteries (hilus of spleen to fundus of artery)
1b. ventral splenic branch gives off left gastric epiploic artery
1c. splenic also gives off pancreatic branches - left gastric artery
- hepatic artery
3a. hepatic branches
3b. right gastric
3c. gastroduodenal branch, which gives off right gastroepiploic (stomach and running in omentum) and cranial pancreaticduodenal
describe the 3 main branches of the cranial mesenteric artery
- ileocolic
- caudal pancreaticduodenal: supplies pancreas and duodenum
- jejunal arcades
describe the branching of the ileocolic branch of the cranial mesenteric artery (4 branches plus name change termination)
there is a short common trunk of the ileocolic before
1. middle colic branch: supplies transverse colon
1a. middle colic gives off left colic branch that continues caudally and anastomoses with the left colic branch of the caudal mesenteric to supply the descending colon
2. right colic branch: supplies right colic flexure; anastomoses with middle and colic branch
3. colic branch: supplies ascending colon
4. cecal branch (supplies cecum): name changes/terminates as anti-mesenteric ileal caudally and supplies ileum
5. ileocolic terminates as mesenteric ileal and supplies the ileum along with the anti-mesenteric
describe the branching of the caudal mesenteric artery (2)
- left colic branch: supplies descending colon along with left colic branch of middle colic of ileocolic of cranial mesenteric
- cranial rectal branch: supplies rectum
