no real set questions
questions can be altered as needed

a mid-way between unstructured and structured

STRENGTHS of general interviews
-closed questions give quantitative data-easy to analyse using statystical testing
WEAKNESSES of general interviews
- time consuming to administer
- interviewer has to be trained
- open questions-qualitative data- difficult to analyse and interpretations can be biased
- ppts can be influenced by social desirability
STRENGTHS of structured interviews
- same questions easy to repeat
- same questions-easier to compare/analyse
- often use closed questions-quantitative data-easy to analyse
- easy to conduct-don’t need alot of training
WEAKNESSES of structured interviews
- can’t change questions to follow up on-results less indepth
- ppts influenced by social desirability

- can change questions to follow up on talking points-more indepth answers
- can use open questions-qualitative data-detailed

- everyone gets different questions-hard to repeat
- everyone gets different questions-harder to compare/analyse
- open questions=qualitative data-harder to analyse
- hard to conduct-take alot of training
