integrity, competence, responsibility, respect
what is integrity?
psychologist’s value honesty,accuracy,clarity and fairness in their interactions with all persons and seek to promote integrity in all facets of their scientific and professional endeavours
what is respect?
psychologist’s value the dignity and worth of all persons with particular regard to people’s rights including those of privacy and self-determination
what is competence?
psychologist’s understand the importance of preserving their ability to function optimally within the recognised limits of their knowledge,skill,training,education and experience
what is responsibility?
psychologist’s value their responsibilities to clients, to the general public, and to the profession and science of psychology including the avoidance of harm and prevention of misuse or abuse of their contributions to society
what are the 6 ethical guidelines?
debrief, deception, confidentiality, consent, protection from harm, right to withdraw
what is consent?
ppts should know purpose of experiment before they begin and should agree to take part
children/those with cognitive impairments-ask guardian for consent

what is debrief?
once an experimenter is complete we must explain true purpose,why we deceived people and make sure they’re ok
what is deception?
should not lie to ppts about purpose of experiment
sometimes it occurs to prevent demand characteristics
what is confidentiality?
must protect ppt identities by giving them pseudonyms/ referring by ppt number
what is protection from harm?
ppts should leave experiment in the same physical and mental state which they entered-shouldn’t harm them
what is right to withdraw?
ppts should be allowed to leave experiment whenever they want
what is presumptive consent
ask a group similar to those we are about to study and if they agree- we assume our group would too
