Interstitial Lung Disease Flashcards
Interstitial Lung Disease
Any lung disease that diffuse lay affects the interstitium/lung parenchyma. Characterised by chronic inflammation & progressive interstitial fibrosis.
Is ILD restrictive or obstructive?
Restrictive lung pattern
Interstitium
Alveoli & terminal bronchi
Lung parenchyma
Portion of lung involved in gas transfer.
Does ILD interfere with gas transfer?
Yes
Early stage
Alveolitis
Alveolitis
Injury with inflammatory cell infiltration
Acute
Exemplified by ARDS
Conditions associated with upper zone fibrosis
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis, sarcoidosis, TB.
Conditions associated with mid zone fibrosis
Progressive massive fibrosis
Conditions associated with lower zone fibrosis
IPF, Asbestosis, Rheumatoid Arthiritis, Amiodarone
Known Causes
Occupational, drugs, hypersensitivity, infections.
ILDS with occupational causes
Asbestosis, silicosis.
ILDS with hypersensitivity
