A: the hypodermis and loose connective tissues

A: a layer of fat
What does the hypodermis and loose connective tissue do?
A: insulate the body
What is the outer layer of the skin?
A: epidermis
How many layers does the epidermis have?
A: two
What is the outer layer and inner layer of the epidermis made up of?
A: the utter layer is made up of dead cells, and the inner layer is made up of living cells
What do older cells start creating?
A: keratin
What is keratin?
A: a tough fibrous protein
When cells die what do they form?
A: a waterproof covering on the skin surface
What else does the epidermis contain?
A: melanocytes
What do melanocytes produce?
A: melanin
What is melanin?
A: a dark brown pigment
What does melanin do?
A: protect the skin from sun damage
