Q

advantages of instrumental methods

A

offer improved:

  • sensitivity, can detect very small amount of different substances
  • accuracy, measure amounts very precisely
  • speed of tests, carry out each analysis quickly, can run all the time

Q

flame photometry

A

-instrumental method of analysis based on flame tests

  • measures the light intensity of the flame colours produced by metal ions
  • separates the flame colours to produce an emission spectra

Q

What can the data from a flame photometer do?

A
  • identify the metal ions present in the sample
  • compares the spectrum with a reference spectrum from a known substance

-determine the concentration of ions in a solution using a calibration curve
