Q

Why does simple distillation work?

A

The solute (solid) has a higher boiling point than the solvent (liquid). When the solution is heated the solvent boils and vapor passes into the condenser. The vapor is cooled down and condenses back to the liquid state, leaving the solute behind. The solution also becomes more concentrated.

Q

What is the function of the condenser?
