Instars
An insect between successive molds (1st instar = after hatching & before 1st molt)
Ametabolous
No metamorphosis
* Stages: Egg->nymph->Adult
* Nymphs: No changes except for smaller size and sexually immature
* Species: Primitive wingless insects
Hemimetabolous
Incomplete metamorphosis
* Stages: Egg->Nymph->adult
* Nymphs: Smaller size, lack fully developed wings, and sexually immature
* Species: Found in exopterygote insects (wings develop to the outside)
Holometabolous
Complete metamorphosis
* Stages: Egg-> Larva-> pupa-> adult
* Larva: Very different from adults
* Species: Found in endopterygote insects (wings develop internally)
