Innate immunity: the induced response to infection Flashcards
Cardinal signs of inflammation
Redness, heat, swelling, pain, loss of function.
Detection of microbes
PPRs bind MAMPs or PAMPs
PPR activation induces what? (not TLR)
Uptake in phagosome.
TLR activation active
Cytokine production
LPS is recognized by
TLRs
MyD88, IRAK4, TRAF6, IKK, NFκB are components of
TLR signaling, induction of inflammatory cytokines
Il-1, TNF-α
Induce vascular permeability, enabling entry of immune cells.
Il-6
Induces fat, muscle metab, raises temperatur.
NOD-like receptors
Detects cytosolic bacteria.
Neutrophilic activation
Reserves of neutrophils in bone marrow are releases and travels to site of infection. Kill bacteria and die in the process.
How does neutrophils know where to go?
Activation of endothelial cells to bind neutrophils. They find the site in tissue by a gradient of IL-8.
How does neutrophils kill bateria?
Phagocytosis, directly or through complement binding. Respiratory bursts
