Innate Immunity Flashcards
What is function of eosinophils? (Innate system)
Help combat parasitic infections.
Involved in allergy and asthma.
Granules contain many enzymes.
Mast cells and allergy ( eosinophils)?
-Immunogloblin receptors on surface of mast cells
-Receptors expressed by mast cells and antibody recognizes receptor
-any kind of allergen recognized recognised by IgE receptor
-Activates mast cell and releases histamine (mediator)
-activates different kind of tissue
-tissues have receptor for histamine
-triggers specific reaction
Function of basophils?
Least common of WBCs (less than 1%)
Contain large cytoplasmic granules with inflammatory mediators.
No proven function
Found in parasitic infection
What are cytokines?
Small proteins – secreted by both immune and some nonimmune cells in response to stimulus.
They communicate with other cells
bind to specific receptors on these cells producing a signalling molecules that lead to many biological effects in these cells
Key players in innate and acquired immunity
Differentiation
Activation
Chemotaxis
Enhancing cytotoxicity
Cooperating within immune system involving cytokines?
for e.g. receptors on natural killer cells can have LPS attach
(lipopolysaccharide)
-triggers response of NKC
-Interferon-gamma interacts with receptor on phagocyte surface
-similarly , phagocyte recognizes LPS
-triggers reaction of phagocyte
-production of a specific cytokine (TNF) tumour necrosis factor
-TNF binds to TNF receptor of phagocyte
-produces another cytokine (IL12) interleukin 12
-produced massively because stimulated by TNF
-IL12 targets NKC
-promote NKC production of IL2
-IL2 stimulates proliferation of NKC
