What is an acute injury?
An injury that us caused suddenly, pain is felt immediately and pain is severe
What is a chronic injury?
An injury that develops over time, also referred to as overuse injuries, they develop slowly
Why can chronic injuries get worse?
They are often ignored by performers which makes the condition
What are the symptoms of acute injuries?
Sudden severe pain, swelling, not being able to bear weight, restricted movement, weakness, a protruding bone or a joint visibly out of place
What are the symptoms of a chronic injury?
Pain when exercising, a dull ache when you rest, swelling
What are examples of acute injuries?
Fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains
What are examples of chronic injuries?
Achilles tendonitis, stress fracture and tennis elbow
What are the 6 types of acute fractures?
Spiral, longitudinal, hairline, greenstick, comminuted and buckle
Why do stress fractures occur?
Muscles become fatigues so the bone takes the bearing and breaks
Why does tennis elbow occur?
Muscle becomes inflamed causing pain
Why does achilles tendonitis occur?
Tendon becomes inflamed causing pain
What is a dislocation?
Bone comes out of the joint
What is a sprain?
Tear in the ligament
What is a strain
Tear in the muscle
