Inherited Change Flashcards
Define Genotype
The genetic constitution of an organism
Define Phenotype
Expressed characteristic that are from the interstion between the environment and the genotype
Define Gene
A section of DNA that codes for a polypeptide
Define Allele
A different form of the same gene at the same locus
Define Homologous Chromosome
Chromosomes with the same loci and determine the same features
If a genotype is ——- what does this mean?
GG
Gg
gg
Homozygous Dominant
Heterozygous
Homozygous Reccessive
Define monohybrid inheritance
The inheritance of a single gene
The allele for Green Pods is dominant - G
The allele for Yellow Pods is reccessive- g
Describe the steps to find out what the F1 genotype and pheotype would be when these are crossed (homozygous dominant)
Parental phenotype = green pod x yellow pod
Parental genotype = GG x gg
Gametes = G and g
F1= Gg Green pod
What does F1 stand for?
First Filia
What evidence is there to prove that an allele is recessive?
Unaffected parents have affected offspring so parents are heterozygous
Define dihybrid inheritance
Inhertiance of two characteristics determined by two different genes located on 2 different chromosomes
There are two genes which occur on separate chromosomes.
One is for seed shape
Round = Dominant (R) Wrinkled = Recessive (r)
One is for seed colour
Yellow = Dominant (Y) Green = Recessive (y)
A round yellow seed is crossed with a wrinkled green seed. Both are homozygous.
What are the genotypes and gametes produced?
Genotype : Round Yellow= RR YY Wrinkled Green= rr yy
Gametes= RY ry
Two seeds are crossed with the genotype RrYy
what are the possible gametes?
RY
Ry
rY

Cross RrYy with RrYy

Name Mendels Law?
Mendels Law of Inderpendent Assortment
