Differential diagnosis?
• common cold
• pneumonia
• meningitis
• para influzena
Respiratory related complications
• exacerbations of COPD or asthma
• bronchitis
• pneumonia
• otitis media
Non respiratory related
• exacerbation of cardiac diseases
• myocarditis
• neurological
• muscle pain
Pregnant women are at higher risk of morbidity and mortality
Who at the “at risk groups” who may require ART
• 65>
• <6 months
• pregnant
• heart disease
• liver disease
• imunosupression
• diabetes
• obese
ART for high risk patients, all criteria must be met:
• National surveillance indicate that influenza if circulating
• must be of those from high risk group
• must initiate treatment within 48 hours of symptom onset
• >48 hours this is a off label use (use clinical judgment)
Symptoms of influenza
• chills
• fever
• headache
• muscle pain
• nasal congestion
What are the 2 options of ART?
Oseltamivir
Or
Zanamivir
Moa is the same for both
Viral neuraminidase inhibitor
(In influenza A and B)
If is a low risk resistance to oseltamivir, what would you give?
Oral oseltamivir
If there is a high risk resistance to oseltamivir, what would you give
Inhaled zanamvir
