B- The USA is one of the most powerful countries in the world due to there large impact they have on other countries

LA- This essay will argue the extent these factors have on influencing other countries.
Paragraph 1- Military

E- The USA IS one of the original countries that set up NATO in 1949 and remains its most influential member. In terms of finance, troops and resources the USA provides more than any other member and provides a ‘nuclear umbrella’ for its members
EX- In 2017 the USA played the lead role in NATO’s mission in bombing ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria.
A- This suggests that this strength puts the US in a commanding position militarily.
H- The USA’s military strength does not always guarantee success
Ex- Despite thousands of US troops in Afghanistan, they failed to defeat the Taliban and on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 President Biden ordered a complete withdrawal
A- This shows that although the Military used up a lot of funding they failed to over run the Taliban
C- The US Military has influenced other countries to a moderate extent. Although having a strong military, they seem to have unlucky success when dealing with other strong groups

EX- USA’s GDP is $16.2 trillion. The second largest trading nation in the world
A- This emphasizes how other countries might feel inclined to work with America as they are in high demand
H- there is evidence of economic stagnation as the IMF claimed that China’s economy is bigger than the USA’s
EX- IMF figures show that the Chinese economy is worth $17.6 trillion, higher than the USA at $17.4 trillion
A- This shows how the USA’s economy could be focused on trying to beat the Chinese economy

E- America has a permanent membership of the UN Security Council which means it can both propose and veto UN Security Council resolutions
EX- the US proposed a resolution in 2017 to impose new sanctions on North Korea in response to their missile tests which was unanimously accepted
A- This shows how other countries might feel threatened by the USA as they have a lot of power over decision making from the UN
F- They can also veto resolutions and they can use this to pursue their own agenda.
EX- In 2017 the US used its veto to stop a resolution which would have called for them to withdraw Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital
A- This shows that the US has a significant influence on international political decision-making as it is able to use its seat on the Security Council to further its own agenda

EX- It is the largest contributor to the UN providing 22% of its budget in 2015 and 28% of its peacekeeping budget
A- Emphasizes the positive impact the USA has had over a large company
H-The USA has been criticised for abusing its power in the UN
EX-The USA called for sanctions against Russia following their involvement in the annexation of Crimea
A- The USA still sees Crimea as being part of Ukraine. So, it could be argued that the USA only uses the UN to increase its sphere of influence by helping its own allies
