Staph aureus, Strep Pyogenes
Honey colored crusts
What is ecthyma?
Ulcerative form of Impetigo
Through epidermis into dermis. Distal extremities
What is the Tx of Impetigo?
Handwashing, clean w/ soap
Dicloxacillin, cephalexin, erythromycin, Amox/Clauv
What are the traits of folliculitis?
Infection of hair follicle, pustule lesions
Staph aureus, psudomonas in hot tub exposure
Anti Staph Abtx
What is furunclulosis? Carbuncles?
Staph aureus infection of hair follacle. Tx w/ systemic Abtx, warm compression, soaks
What are the traits of Cellulitis?
Poorly defined border. Infection of dermis from wound. lower leg. bullous lesions if from strep
What is the Tx of Cellulitis?
Treat for GAS (non-purulent)
Tx for MRSA (purulent)
What is the diff between erysipelas and Cellulitis?
Superficial cellulitis w/ marked dermal lymphatic involvement. Caused By GAS
What are the traits of Scarlet fever?
Toxin released from GAS associated w/ pharyngitis. Strawberry tongue
What are the traits of Staph scalded skin syndrome?
Exfoliative exotoxin of staph aureus. Clear Bullae devt => shed
What are the traits of Toxic Shock syndrome?
> 1 exotoxins from staph aureus
3 or more organ systems
What are the traits of Nec Fasc?
Fascial infection: Necrosis of surrounding tissue. can follow surgery. EMERGENCY
Fournier Gangrene
What is the Tx of Nec Fasc?
Debriedment. Broad Spec abtx, hyperbaric Oxygen
What are the traits of Meningococcemia?
Mixed petechial and macular rash, extremities
Red macules w/ brown stained appearance
What is the Tx of Meningococcemia?
Penicillin
