Indicating/Recording Systems/PFD Flashcards
What computers feed data to the 6 display units?
3 Display Management Computers (DMC)
What does each of the DMC’s normally supply?
DMC 1- CA PFD, ND, upper ECAM DU
DMC 2- FO PFD, ND, lower ECAM DU
DMC 3- Backup
How can you tell if a DMC has failed?
A diagonal line will be displayed in the respective EFIS/ECAM DU
What happens when the upper ECAM display fails?
The E/WD automatically replaces the SD on the lower ECAM display
If both the E/WD and SD display fail, how can you display E/WD information?
Select the ECAM/ND XFR switch to CAPT or FO to transfer the E/WD to either ND
-press and hold an appropriate system page button to display the information temporarily on the ND
If the ECAM upper display knob were switched to OFF what would occur?
The E/WD display would automatically transfer to the lower DU
With the E/WD displayed on the lower screen, how else can you view SD information?
Press and hold the appropriate system button on the ECAM control panel you want to view
What do you check on the SD pages during preflight?
DOOR page: OXY…check pressure
HYD page: Reservoir fluid level…check in normal range
ENG page: ENG oil quantity…check normal
What occurs when the T.O. CONFIG pb is pressed?
- the system simulates the application of T.O. power and checks certain systems for proper configuration
- a warning is displayed if a system is not configured properly
- “TO CONFIG NORMAL” is displayed in the T.O. MEMO section if the configuration is correct
What is DMC?
Display Management Computers:
Three identical DMCs obtain data from various sensors and computers aboard the aircraft and send it to the DUs
What is a SDAC? How many do we have?
System Data Acquisition Concentrator: 2 identical
- acquire data and generate signals, some to the DMCs to generate displays of system pages and engine parameters and;
- some to the FWCs which use them to generate ECAM messages and aural alerts
What is FWC? How many do we have?
Flight Warning Computer: 2 identical computers
-generate alert messages on the E/WD and SD with data acquired from the SDACs; also generates radio and decision height callouts, Master Warning, and Master Caution
What powers the standby horizon indicator? What supplies back up power?
- DC ESS Bus
- HOT Bus 1 supplies back up
How is the Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS) powered?
DC ESS Bus or HOT Bus 1
When V/S analog pointer and digital indication will turn amber under what conditions?
- 6000 ft/min, climb or descent
- V/S is greater than 2000 ft/min during descent when altitude is between 1000’ and 2500’ RA
- V/S is greater than 1200 ft/min during descent when below 1000’ RA
What is the CVR and DFDR automatic activation logic?
- For 5 minutes after electrical power is supplied to the aircraft, or after last engine shutdown
- After first engine start
- Anytime inflight
How do you record the FA’s PAs?
ACP 3 PA volume knob out; medium volume
Describe the CVR test?
- Parking brake on
- Both speaker vol knobs off
- ACP INT/RAD switch set to INT
- INT vol knob released and turned down
- Press CVR TEST pb and listen for frequency through speakers
What is the purpose of the GND CTL pb? Why do we select it on during preflight?
- Allow the CVR to be selected ON when the logic has automatically deactivated it
- It is G4’s policy to record all checklists during preflight
How many transponders are installed?
2
How is the crew made aware of mode changes on the FMA?
A white box is temporarily displayed around the new indication
What would the large red arrowheads indicate on the PFD?
Pitch attitude of +30° or -15°
What does the MAN PITCH TRIM ONLY in red mean?
You are in mechanical backup
What does the USE MANUAL PITCH TRIM in amber mean?
You are in Direct Law
What are the pitch and roll angle limits indicated by the green = signs?
- Pitch: +30° / -15°
- Bank: +/- 67°
How can you determine you are in Alternate Law?
- Amber X’s at the pitch and bank limits
- Only VLS and VSW are displayed on the airspeed scale
What does the yellow speed trend line on the airspeed display indicate?
The speed the aircraft will reach in 10 seconds if acceleration/deceleration remains constant
