Ice Protection Flashcards
When do you use engine anti-ice?
- When OAT (ground) / TAT (flight) is 10°C or below with visible moisture present
- Prior to starting descent in icing conditions (including temps below -40°C SAT)
What exception is there to the engine anti-ice rule?
Engine anti-ice not required during climb and cruise when the temperature is below -40°C SAT
What does a FAULT light in the ENG ANTI ICE pb indicate?
Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement
With the ENG ANTI ICE on what indications will you see on the pb?
A blue ON light
Can you use the wing anti-ice on the ground?
No
What happens if you turn the wing anti-ice on while on the ground?
The wing anti-icing valves will open for a 30 second test
What part of the wing is heated?
Outboard 3 slats
Can you use the APU bleed for wing anti-ice?
No
What does the amber FAULT light in the WING ANTI ICE pb indicate?
- Switch/Valve disagreement
- Low pressure is detected
In what position do the wing and engine anti-ice valves fail if electrical power is lost?
- Wing: valve close
- Engine: valve open
Which exterior aircraft components utilize electrical heating?
- Cockpit windshields and sliding side windows
- AOA, TAT, pitot probes, and static ports
- Waste water drain masts
What is the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT logic in AUTO (lights out)?
- When the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pb is placed in auto, the probes and windows are heated automatically on the ground provided one engine is running or when the aircraft is in flight
- TAT not heated on the ground
