Indicating and Recording Systems Flashcards
What is TO inhibit, when does it begin/end?
The computer inhibits some warnings and cautions that do not impact safety to avoid alerting pilots unnecessarily at times of high workload.
Begins when first eng reaches TO power until 1500ft or 2 mins.
What is landing inhibit, when does it begin/end?
The computer inhibits some warnings and cautions that do not impact safety to avoid alerting pilots unnecessarily at times of high workload.
Begins at 800ft until speed <80kts.
When does TO memo appear and disappear?
Appears on lower EWD 2 mins after 2nd engine start, or with 1 engine running if TO CONFIG pb pressed.
Disappears when TO power set.
When does landing memo appear and disappear?
Appears on lower EWD at 2000ft RA and disappears when speed <80kts.
When does the backup speed scale appear, what does it look like, how does it work?
Appears following failure of all ADRs and is based on AoA.
Replaces usual PFD speed tape, red band with green centre where speed is safe based on config.
If a DU is flashing/flickering intermittently what does QRH suggest as likely cause, and fix?
QRH suggests Intermittent Electrical Power Supply Interruptions. Suggests turning relevant GEN off, if flickering stops keep off and start APU. If continues keep GEN on.
If a DU is blank, with/without a large F on screen, what has happened and what can you do?
DU failed an can be switched off. Can use switching to recover required info.
Some MSNs can try to reset by turning brightness off then on.
What are the consequences of one of the centre ECAM displays failing?
Only EWD shown on remains screen.
Press and hold sys pb to display SD or STS pb to STS page.
If DU has message ‘invalid data’, what should you do?
Associated DMC failed, use ECAM switching to move standby DMC to failed side to recover DU.
What are the FWC? How many are there?
There are 2 Flight Warning Computers. They generate attention getters, alert messages, memos, aural alerts, and synthetic voice messages.
They also generate RA callouts, DH callouts and calculate landing distance and spd increments.
With regards FWC, how many flight phases are there?
10
How many DMCs are there, and what do they do?
There are 3 Display Management Computers.
They obtain data from different sensors and computers and send it to the BUs.
Each DMC has a single DMC channel and can supply one PFD, one ND and both ECAM DUs.
What causes multiple unexpected ECAM warnings and cautions?
If one of the DMCs stops functioning correctly we may get lots of spurious ECAM cautions and warnings.
If confirmed as spurious, troubleshoot and isolate faulty DMC using ECAM DMC switching (QRH Proc).
Except for Vapp target, all speeds (Flt envelope and Op speeds) on PFD are updated constantly based on aircrafts precise weight. How does a/c do this?
In flight the FACs constantly calculate the a/c weight.
They do this by comparing aerodynamic and a/c parameters inc. AoA, thrust setting, IAS, CG, to work out Vs1g (normal stall speed).
It uses this to calculate entire flight envelope and operating speeds up to 14500ft. After this it simply uses last calculated GW less fuel burn.
What are the target speeds on the PFD based on, and where do they come from?
Computed by FMGC based on ZFW, CG, and fuel load entered by crew.
