Q

What are the details of impulse?

A
  • Impulse is equal to a change of momentum (acceleration/deceleration acts on it)
  • Positive impulse = if an individual or object is accelerated
  • Negative impulse = if an individual or object is decelerated
  • The longer the force is in contact (large impulse), the greater the acceleration or deceleration

Q

Give 2 examples of positive and negative impulse..

A
Positive = push pass in hockey, Discus spin

Q

Explain impulse and sprinting..

A
  • Positive impulse is gained through ground-reaction force
  • Negative impulse is gained through footfall
  • If the GRF is larger than FF then the runner will accelerate
  • If they are the same than the runner will be constant and will have a net impulse of zero
