What does DOMS stand for?
A
Delayed onset of Muscle Soreness

Why do the muscles feel sore after intense muscular exercise? eg plyometrics
A
Damage to the muscle fibres and the connective tissue which leads to inflammation and increased muscle temperature

How to prevent DOMS…
A
- Do a dynamic warm up to make the muscles warmer to increase flexibility, less likely to tear
- Avoid strenuous muscle action such as downhill running or down phase of a press up
- Gradually increase intensity and duration of exercise (progression in SPORT)
- active warm down that includes passive stretching which prevents blood pooling and get rid of lactic acid
- massages (drain the blood reducing blood pooling and removing lactic acid)
- ice baths
