A

Why do the muscles feel sore after intense muscular exercise? eg plyometrics

A

Damage to the muscle fibres and the connective tissue which leads to inflammation and increased muscle temperature

How to prevent DOMS…

A
  • Do a dynamic warm up to make the muscles warmer to increase flexibility, less likely to tear
  • Avoid strenuous muscle action such as downhill running or down phase of a press up
  • Gradually increase intensity and duration of exercise (progression in SPORT)
  • active warm down that includes passive stretching which prevents blood pooling and get rid of lactic acid
  • massages (drain the blood reducing blood pooling and removing lactic acid)
  • ice baths
