Implantation Flashcards
When does the oocyte become an embryo?
After Syngamy
What does the term conceptus all entail?
Embryo during early embryonic stage, fetus and placenta
Describe a cleavage that occurs in the ZP
Zygote undergoes mitotic diviosions
What is a blastomere?
A two celled embryo from the first cleavage division.
What is totipotency?
When the blastomere has potential to form a fully developed individual
Has not been seen past a 16 cell stage
What is Morula?
Solid ball of cells in which the cells in the center begin to compact more than the outer region
What is MRP?
Maternal Recognition of Pregnancy
What is MRP in the mare?
Presence of conceptus, endometrial PGF2a is reduced- Consceptus goes to different uterine horns 12-14 times a day to prevent PGF2a
List the species and their pregnancy recognition factors
Cow- bIFN-t
Ewe- oIFN
Sow- Estradiol
Horse- 3 Proteins and Estrogen
List the 4 extra embryonic membranes
Yolk sac
Allontois
Amnion
Chorion
What makes the amnion and chorion?
Trophoblast and primitive endoderm
What extra embryonic membranes is the fetus contribution providing space for attachment?
Chorioallantonic
What is the purpose of the amnion?
Fluid filled sac to protect the fetus
What does the Allontois do?
Collects waste from the fetus
What is the yolk sac made of?
Primative endoderm
What three things compose the extra embryonic membranes?
Primitive endoderm, trophoblast and embryo
What is an ootid?
when female and male pronuclei can be observed in the oocyte
What are tight junctions?
outer cells that have cell-cell adhesion and allow water to diffuse into the cell
What are the gap junctions?
Cells in the inner portion which allow for intercellular communication
Describe MPR in the cow.
Recognized 15-18 days from bIFN-t which blocks oxytocin receptors in the uterus, causing for less areas for sperm to bind to, and PGF2a is reduced
Proteins are made for implantation
Describe MPR in a sheep.
Recognized 12-14 days from oIFN-t which blocks oxytocin receptors in the uterus, causing for less areas for sperm to bind to, and PGF2a is reduced
Proteins are made for implantation
Describe MPR in the mare
12-14 days the spherical conceptus is bouncing in the uterus and releases 3 proteins and estrogen causing PGF2a to be reduced
Describe the MPR in the sow.
11-12 days the embryo makes E2, which produces prolactin receptors where PGF2a is rerouted so it can’t kill the CL
