Immunology-Stuff to review Flashcards
Mannose-tailed glycans vs germ-line encoded
Mannose-tailed glycans are on the surface molecules of bacteria and viruses
Germ-line are sequences in gamete producing cells
What are the adhesion pairs for T cells and MHCs?
TCR/MHC peptide pair
B7/CD28
LFA-1/ICAM-1
Induction phase of cell-mediated immune response
Clonal expansion of CD8+ T cells within a lymph node
Delayed Type Hypersensitivity Reactions (DTH)
- Induction (clonal expansion of CD8+ T cells within a lymph node-T cells are activated by APC)
- Inflammatory phase
- Effector phase (Macrophages kill)
- Chronic DTH reaction
- Granuloma
B7/CD28
Be careful when reading question because CD28 is on CD4+ cell, and NOT a cytotoxic T cell.
True
Activating CD8+ cells
Dendritic cells “pick up” fragments of killed infected cells or viral particles and present them to naive CD8+ T cells via the class I MHC pathway.
B. Dendritic cells can be infected with the virus and present viral peptides to naive CD8+ T cells via the class I MHC pathway.
D. Th cells secrete IL-2 that promotes proliferation and differentiation of CD8+ T cells.
E. Helper T cells activate APCs via the CD40L-CD40 pathway, and the activated APCs present viral peptides to naive CD8+ T cells via the class I MHC pathway.
CD8+ and mutated viruses
Viruses can mutate and are then able to avoid detection
The virus-specific CTL are unable to recognize the virus-infected cells if the mutations happened to occur in the amino acid sequence of the epitopes recognized by the CTL.
“Always stays one step ahead…”
Plasma cells secrete IgG, NOT B cells
True
Opsonization deals with extracellular bacteria
True
Blood born antigens are presented by APCs in the spleen
True
Immature dendritic cells are in skin and mucosal tissues
True
