Step one:
Take or verbalize body substance isolation precautions
Step two:
Direct supplication of MANUAL stabilization of the injured leg
Step three:
Direct application of manual traction
Step four:
Assess, motor, sensory and distal circulation
Step five - twelve
Prepares the splint to proper length
Position the splint at the side of the injured leg
Applies the ischial strap
Applies the ankle hitch
Applies mechanical traction
Secures the support straps
Re-evaluate the proximal/distal securing devices
Reassess motor, sensory and distal circulation
The examiner asks the candidate how he/she would prepare the patient for transport:
Verbalize securing the torso to the long board to immobilize the hip and securing the splint to the long board to prevent movement of the splint
