Immediate Action Drills Flashcards
What action may be required to be taken on suddenly encountering hostiles?
(a) Both parties see each other at the same time.
(b) Hostiles see SF first (Flee or lay hasty ambush).
(c) Action on deliberate ambush of hostile.
(d) SF sees hostiles first (Bypass or lay opportunity ambush).
What are the basic considerations for IA drill?
(a) Proper use of ground is a must to avoid being ambushed.
(b) As the movement progress the doubtful areas on the side should be searched.
(c) Every soldier should be capable of reacting to situations on his own without orders. On sudden encounter a soldier waiting for orders will miss the hostiles.
(d) The group which is not under hostile fire should assault the ambush position as soon as possible.
(e) The assault should be following by pursuit. Every effort should be made to maintain contact because such contacts with hostiles are very rare.
(f) The most important factor that will lead to success is aggressiveness.
What are the types of columns of SF that the hostile have mostly ambushed?
(a) Road opening parties.
(b) Routine patrols.
(c) Troops visiting the villages in ones and twos and at odd timing.
(d) Soft targets.
(e) Administrative convoy.
What are the likely points for the selection of target?
(a) No of personals.
(b) Routine.
(c) Routes followed.
(d) Arms and equipment.
(e) Peculiar habits.
(f) Reaction capabilities.
(g) Recommendations.
What are the points that are considered when selecting an ambush site?
Reconnaissance. The following points are considered when selecting an ambush site:-
(a) The killing ground is chosen so that it is difficult for the security forces column to assault the ambush position from there.
(b) The site is so selected that the movement of security forces column slows down when passing through it. This results in their ‘bunching’ up and presenting an ideal target.
(c) The ground on the sides of ambush site is steep providing flank protection.
(d) Use of ruses to slow down movement of column.
(e) Straight stretches of road have also been used.
What are the reasons for Non-Exploitation?
(i) Hostiles may want to demonstrate their will to strike at SF with impunity to the local population.
(ii) They may not have sufficient strength to exploit their success.
(iii) They may be apprehensive of swift and severe punishment by the SF.
(iv) They may get involved in close quarter fighting and lose time of escape.
