There are a few differences between company and platoon harbor drill. What are these differences?

A

(a) In Coy harbor one Sec from each Platoon will be in depth as opposed to only one-rifle groups in the Platoon harbor.
(b) In Coy harbor the distance of outer groups of sentries will be more than that of Platoon harbor.
(c) In case digging is being done, a sentry should be sent ahead to a distance, from where the sound of digging cannot be heard. This will help in maintaining security of harbor.

(a) The Bn Second in command carries out reconnaissance of harbor area with the recce party.

When Hostile are Fairly Active, what are the security measures that may be taken in addition to the sy measures when hostile not active?

A

(a) In hilly areas, hill tops should be occupied as harbor site and proper deception measures should be used before occupying harbor.
(b) If stay in the harbor is likely to exceed 24 hours slit trenches may be dug.
(c) The tracks leading up to harbor area should be kept under surveillance by means of ambush, listening posts and so on.
(d) Proper use of Assault buster mines and wire obstacles (punch Tape)
(e) If possible, suitable helipad should be selected.
(f) Prior to occupying the harbor site, security forces must avoid villages and should not contact with the local people.

What are the measures that may be taken while abandoning harbor?

A

(a) Troops should observe ‘Stand To’ before abandoning the harbor.

(b) An ambush party should be sent on the track which the column will be using
after leaving the harbor. This party should be sent well in advance. The aim of sending this party is to ensure clearance of the track to be used and not to allow hostile to follow the column. The ambush party should rejoin the main column after it has passed the ambush site.

(c) No tell-tale marks should be left behind in the harbor. (d) Everything should be checked before leaving the harbor.
