What are the situations that SF may contact with hostiles in his ambush?
(a) SF see the Hostile First.
If security force sees the hostiles ambush or get information about hostiles ambush area first, SF should assault the ambush and destroy them. The fleeing hostiles should be pursued and destroyed.
(b) The Hostiles see SF First.
If hostiles see the SF first, they may spring their ambush as per their planning. In such condition, the SF should employ the anti- ambush drill.
What are the situations that SF may face in hostile ambush?
(a) The Front Portion of the Column caught in the Ambush.
(b) When the Rear Portion of the Column is Caught in the Ambush.
(c) When Complete Column caught in Ambush.
What are the actions after successfully breaking Ambush(while on foot)?
(a) Capture the weapon, ammunition and equipment from the casualty and dead insurgents.
(b) First aid to casualty.
(c) Re-organize the troops in ambush site.
(d) Search the area, surrounding and house nearby ambush site.
What is the sequence of Anti Ambush Drill?
(a) Ambush spring by insurgents.
(b) Immediate return of fire by the SF to the ambush site.
(c) Immediate evacuation from killing ground and taking position on cover.
(d) Attack from flank and block the escape route.
(e) Use of illumination at night.
(f) Immediate first aid to own casualties.
(g) Inform the HQ and ask for reinforcement.
(h) Continue the fire fight and reporting the situation to the HQ.
(i) Select Helipad near the ambush site for reinforcement and casevac.

What are the reasons hostiles prefer to ambush the SF’s vehicles rather than SF on foot?
(a) Compulsion to use the limited available roads and tracks for vehicle movement.
(b) Difficult to return fire from ambushed vehicle.
(c) Cause heavy damage to vehicle by use of explosive.
(d) Easy to monitor SF movement in vehicle.
(e) Easy to identify SF’s vehicle.
(g) Easy to seize weapons and stores in huge quantity.
(h) Can be operated from safe distance.
(i) IED or fire ambush or the combination can be used as per situation.
What are the points that should be considered for the Security of convoy?
Following points should be considered for the Security of convoy.
(a) No movement of single vehicle.
(b) Provide escorts to convoy.
(c) No pattern/routine movement of convoy.
(d) Maximum practice on Anti Ambush drill.
(e) Practice on embussing and debussing drill.
(f) Troops should be kept intact i.e. section, platoon etc in the vehicle.
(g) Automatic weapons mounted in the vehicle with capability to fire 360 degrees.
What are the preparations that should be done before marching the vehicle?
The following preparations should be done before marching the vehicle.
(a) If possible, replace the glasses by wire net.
(b) Remove the hood to facilitate all round observation.
(c) Unfold the tail board.
(d) Use of sand bag on the floor for the protection from mine.
(e) Remove the things which may disturb the driver.
(f) Make arrangements to protect fuel tank.
(g) Mount GPMG/LMG in the vehicle.
(h) Seating arrangement should be done in the center facing outward.
(i) Troops should be in battle order, FSMO to be kept under the seat.
What are the conditions for vehicle anti ambush drill and their respective actions?
Conditions for vehicle Anti Ambush Drill
Condition-1: Leading Vehicle in Ambush.
If the leading vehicle or the forward vehicle is ambushed by the insurgent then the following action should be taken.
(a) The troops in the ambushed vehicle should immediately return fire and dismount from the vehicle in staggered manner and try to pin down the ambush party.
(b) LMG/GPMG should provide fire support from suitable place in order of commander.
(c) The troops in the vehicle (middle vehicle) who are not yet inside the killing ground should immediately attack the ambush position from suitable flank.
(d) The troops in rear vehicle will act as reserve.
Condition-II: Mid Vehicle in Ambush.
If the vehicle in the middle of the convoy is ambushed by the insurgents, the action should be as follows.
(a) The vehicle which hasn’t passed through the killing ground (i.e. Rear vehicle) should attack the ambush party from suitable flank.
(b) The troops in forward vehicle will remain as reserve.
Condition-III: Rear Vehicle in Ambush.
Same action taken as in Condition-I but the direction of assault will reverse.
What are the actions after Anti Ambush Drill (while on vehicle)?
(a) Collect insurgent’s arms, ammunition and equipment.
(b) First aid to the casualties.
(c) Report the expenditure of ammunition and explosives.
(d) Inform nearby posts about the incident.
(e) Take the damaged vehicle to nearby post, if possible.

(a) Routine logistic convoys.
