Imaging Flashcards
Explain using a transabdominal USS?
- 1st line
- uses a abdominal US transducer
- full bladder acts as an acoustic window
Explain the use of a transvaginal USS?
- Usually 2nd line to transabdominal
- invasive procedure
- excellent depiction of pelvic organs
Disadvantages of USS?
- User dependant
- obesity may make a transabdominal scan harder
What is a hysterosalpinography used for?
- assessment of tubal patency
- cervix cannulated and radiopaque contrast instilled
3 measurements of the ovaries?
- height
- width
- length
- volume then calculated
An ovarian volume greater than ___ml may be suggestive of PCOS?
- Greater than 10ml
Disadvantage of CT scanning?
- higher dose radiation
What is CT scanning used for in gynaecology?
- staging of ovarian and endometrial cancer
- more likely distant spread
Different MRI sequences
- T1 weighting and T2
What shows bright white in t1 sequencing mRI?
- Blood, protein, mucin
What goes bright white on T2 sequencing?
- water
- oedema
- infection
Staging in Ovarian cancer?
- CT
Staging in cervical cancer
- MRI
- as more likely to be local invasion
Endometrial cancer staging
- MRI
- Transvaginal USS for thickness
What is hydrosalpinx?
- fluid and build up and dilation of uterine tubes
