What’s described in this chapter?
Track interceptions on IFR maneuvers
When are we establised into a track or a radial?
- When less than a half CDI deflection (VOR and ILS)
- Within 5º of the track or radial (NDB)
What’s the use of the RMI in interceptions?
We can see our instantaneous position
Helps us to calculate how to proceed to intercept a track/radial/route
What does the RMI indicate us?
Actual track and radial from the station selected on the COM Panel
How’s the Arrowhead called?
What does it indicate us?
HEAD
It indicates us the TRACK or ROUTE
How’s the Tail of the needle called?
What does it indicate?
TAIL
It indicates us the RADIAL
What representations of the HSI can we find?

Flying a track/route:
When we fly a track/route or radial inbound, we fly directly to the station. The TO/FROM Arrow must indicate TO
Flying a Radial:
When we fly a radial, we fly out of the station. The TO/FROM Arrow must indicate FROM

IFR.2.5.1.1 DIRECT INBOUND
How many interceptions are there?
There are 3 possible types of interceptions:
1- X is between 15º and 60º
(15º<X<60º) X is the difference between actual and desired TRACK
DESIRED - HEAD - 30º
2- X is between 60º and 90º
(60º<X<90º) X is the difference between actual and desired TRACK
DESIRED - HEAD - Zº
Z corresponds to the angle to complete the 90º between the desired track and the interception heading (maximum interception angle)
Z= 90º - X
3- X is less than 15º
(X<15º) X is the difference between actual and desired TRACK
DESIRED - HEAD - 2Xº + Wind Correction

How many interceptions are there?
What must you check to do this interception?
1- X is between 20º and 90º
(20º<X<90º) X is the difference between actual and desired RADIAL
TAIL- DESIRED - 45º
2- X is less than 20º
(X<20º) X is the difference between actual and desired RADIAL
TAIL- DESIRED - Xº + WIND CORRECTIONS
- We must check the TO arrow and the Course arrow are on the opposite direction

What must Xº be in passed interceptions?
What is Xº?
- Always more than 90º
- X is Always the difference between our actual track or radial and our desired track or radial.
IFR.2.5.2.1 Passed INBOUND
what are the steps for doing passed inbounds?
- Select our desired track/route or radial inbound in the HSI
- Fly hdg of desired track or radial inbound
- Maintain hdg until we’re abeam of station
(That means the TO changes to FROM)
- Once abeam abeam station take the time for one minute keeping the heading
- Then turn 90º towards the position of the CDI
- Finally turn on the direction of the Arrowhead of our HSI Course Selected, following the top of the CDI with the lubbe line until CDI is centered in our HSIIFR-
IFR.2.5.2.2 Passed OUTBOUND
What are the steps for a passed outbound interception?
- First, select our desired radial in the HSI
- Then, fly heading to our desired radial
- Maintain our heading until we’re abeam the station
- When abeam the station, turn 45º towards CDI
- Finally, turn on the direction of the Arrowhead of our HSI Course Selected, following the top of CDI with the lubber line until CDI is centered in our HSI
